Our clothing. It says who we are, who we are trying to be, who we want to become. Our culture of over consumption has led us to believe we need a fully new wardrobe every season. Let’s take an afternoon to bring awareness to the garments we love and wear daily. The ones we have loved beyond their expected lifetime, that we know still serve a purpose in our lives.

In our Artful Mending workshop, we will practice three techniques of mending; darning, Sashiko (mending embroidery), and patching. We’ll figure out what types of garments need which style of mending and when mending styles can be blended. We’ll provide participants with the tools to take mending into their own lives. Learn things we should think about when embarking on a project. Then we will have some time to start some personal mending projects. You're welcome to not start on personal projects and just keep practicing the techniques we learn in class.

Ren LaDassor has been in the garment industry for over 20 years where she has worked in TV, Film, Broadway, and Regional Theaters. She has a degree in Costume Design from University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She now works as a textile artist, graphic designer and designs costumes with Forward Theater at the Overture Center. She has a passion for the slow art of sewing, always has an embroidery project going, and loves to share that with anyone who is interested.
